What Is Theme In WordPress?

According to WordPress terminology, a WordPress theme is a group of stylesheets and templates that are used to describe the appearance and display of a WordPress site. A WordPress theme changes the layout & design of your site.

You can change, manage, and add a theme, by going to Appearance>>Themes in your WordPress admin panel. There are a lot of themes available in WordPress.org theme directory. Each & every theme comes with various features, design, and layout. The user can choose one that suits their requirements.

Furthermore, a theme is an identifying condition or a phenomenon that sets its apart from the rest. For example, Let’s talk about the Halloween theme. It is a theme for the party that distinguishes itself from just a regular party. Moreover, Halloween parties usually use a specific color costume, palette, food, traditions, and games. A theme is a concept or subject which carry on through an event, talk.

However, modification of a WordPress theme is possible. By adding plugins or code to the function.php file you can modify your theme. In addition to images and JavaScript files, the theme generally consists of three parts: style.css file, WordPress template files, and an optional functions.php files that allow users to make any changes to WordPress theme.

Each & every theme should have a unique style.css file – it does not mean that styles cannot be the same. But, in the header, the identifying information should be different. Otherwise, you can face a lot of problems during installation. In case it is not a child theme so it should have at least one index.php template file so that it controls the display of content.

What WordPress themes can do?

Themes display the WordPress stored data and content in the browser. Whenever you build a theme, there is a thing that comes to your mind is how my site looks. There are a lot of options have for creating your theme. For example:

  • The theme can have various layouts, design, and features such as responsive or static, using one column or two.
  • A theme can show your content anywhere as per your choice.
  • The theme can define which devices make your content visible.
  • Using CSS it can customize its typography and design elements.

Most of the WordPress themes provide these following features:

  • Colors
  • Font styling
  • Widget locations
  • Additional stylistic details
  • Page layouts (or templates)
  • Styles for blog posts and blog archives
  • The overall design or style of your site.   

The pre-installed theme in WordPress is so boring and it is not effective. It has templates like 90’s website. But you have not to get pain because there are many themes are available on the server which you can easily download and install them to look your website more effective.
